Sister M. Raphael O’Malley, IHM

November 16, 1859 – February 5, 1948

Sister M. Raphael O’Malley, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Thursday, February 5, 1948, at St. Agnes Place in Elmhurst, PA.

She was born on November 16, 1859 in Scranton, PA, and given the name Rose. She was the daughter of the late Thomas and Anna Cannon O’Malley. She entered the IHM Congregation on March 30, 1883, received the religious habit on September 5, 1883, and made profession of her vows on August 25, 1885.

Sister Raphael served as a teacher at St. John the Evangelist School in Scranton, PA; Holy Rosary School in Scranton, PA; St. John the Evangelist School in Pittston, PA; and St. John School in Susquehanna, PA.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Peter and John, and six sisters, Bridget Gallagher, Sister M. Stella, IHM, Sister M. Mercedes, IHM, Kate O’Malley, Ellen (Nellie) O’Malley and Jane (Jennie) Gilgallon.

She is survived nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be on Saturday, February 7 at 10:00 am at St. Catherine’s Church, Moscow, PA. Interment to follow at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow. Friends may call on Friday at St. Agnes Place, Elmhurst.

Note: Sister M. Mercedes and Sister M. Raphael were twin sisters, who both entered the IHM Congregation.
