Sister M. Nazarius Sweeney, IHM
November 4, 1889 – October 12, 1953

Sister M. Nazarius Sweeney, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, died on Monday, October 12, 1953, at St. Ignatius Convent in Kingston, PA.
She was born on November 4, 1889 in Ashley, PA, and given the name Julia R. She was the daughter of William H. Sweeney, and the late Anna Coyle Sweeney. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 8, 1911, received the religious habit on December 27, 1911, and made profession of her vows on December 30, 1913.
Sister Nazarius served as a music teacher at the following schools: Most Holy Rosary High School in Syracuse, NY; St. Rosalia High School in Pittsburgh, PA; and St. Alphonsus High School in New York City, NY.
For the past decade, Sister served at St. Ignatius Catechetical Center in Kingston, PA.
In addition to her father, William of Dallas, PA, she is also survived by two sisters, Helen Sweeney and Mary McNelis, both of Dallas, PA; two brothers, William, Jr., and Thomas, both of Washington, DC; nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Thursday, October 15, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Ignatius Church in Kingston. Interment will follow at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, PA. Friends may call on Wednesday at St. Ignatius Convent, 840 Market St., Kingston.
