Sister M. Donata McFadden, IHM

August 18, 1894 – November 14, 1953

Sister M. Donata McFadden, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Saturday, November 14, 1953, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Carbondale, PA.

She was born on August 18, 1894 in Coal Center, PA, and given the name Margaret Elizabeth. She was the daughter of the late Dennis and Elizabeth Neuland McFadden. The family later moved to Pittsburgh, PA. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 8, 1921, received the religious habit on December 29, 1921, and made profession of her vows on December 27, 1923.

Sister Donata served as a teacher at the following schools: St. Ann School in Scranton, PA; Holy Rosary School in Scranton, PA; St. Paul School in Scranton, PA; and St. Rosalia School in Pittsburgh, PA.

She was preceded in death by two twin infant sisters, Bertha and Ella E., and two brothers, Charles and John J. (Mick).

She is survived by four brothers, Reverend Daniel, SJ, of Georgetown University in Washington, DC, Edward Vincent of Pittsburgh, PA, Cornelius Paul of Pelham, NY, and John Robert of Miami, FL; two sisters, Mary Cecelia Travis of Baltimore, MD, and Ruth Webb of Fort Worth, TX; nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be Tuesday, November 17, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Rose Church in Carbondale, with interment to follow at Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Carbondale, PA. Friends may call on Monday afternoon or evening at St. Rose Convent in Carbondale.
