Sister M. Nativite Hannon, IHM

Sister M. Nativite Hannon, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Wednesday, February 2, 1927, at St. Joseph’s Children’s and Maternity Hospital in Scranton, PA.
She was born on December 18, 1878 in Scranton, PA, and given the name Ellen Loretta. She was the daughter of the late James A. and Ellen Cawley Hannon. She entered the IHM Congregation on January 6, 1907, received the religious habit on July 16, 1907, and made profession of her vows on April 13, 1909.
For the past nineteen years, Sister Nativite lovingly cared for resident children at St. Joseph’s Foundling Home and St. Joseph’s Children’s and Maternity Hospital, both located in Scranton, PA.
She is survived by six sisters, Mary Reardon, Theresa (Tessie) Hannon, Anna Hannon, Laura Lamb, Agnes Meyer, and Sister M. Linus, IHM; four brothers, Joseph T., Henry, James A. Jr., and William Francis; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Friday, February 4 at 9:30 a.m. in Mount St. Mary’s Chapel in Scranton, PA. Interment will follow at the Marywood College Cemetery, on the grounds of Marywood College in Scranton.
Archival Remembrance:
Sister Nativite was born in the Nativity section of Scranton, and attended St. John’s Parochial School. After her graduation from that institution she studied at Mount St. Mary’s Seminary. Twenty years ago she entered the Immaculate Heart Order and after one year at Mount St. Mary’s she was assigned to St. Joseph’s Foundling Home where she has been since. For twenty years, Sister Nativite has served God as a religious, and her death will be a great shock to her hundreds of friends, both in religion and the world outside.
