Sister M. Paul O’Donnell, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Sunday, February 6, 1927, at St. Alphonsus Convent in New York City, NY.
She was born on November 21, 1856 in Pittsburgh, PA, and given the name Mary. She was the daughter of the late Terrance and Bridget Handrihan O’Donnell. She entered the IHM Congregation on January 6, 1885, received the religious habit on August 25, 1885, and made profession of her vows on August 2, 1887.
Sister Paul served as a teacher at Laurel Hill Academy in Susquehanna, PA, and St. Alphonsus School in New York City, NY, from 1913 until the time of her death.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Margaret O’Donnell and Josephine Pender.
She is survived by two sisters, Ellen (Ella) Swain and Johnanna Stevens, nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Tuesday, February 8, with a high mass of requiem at St. Alphonsus Church in New York City, NY. After mass, the body will be placed on a Lackawanna Railroad train headed for Scranton, and interment will be made at 2:30 p.m. at the Marywood College Cemetery, on the grounds of Marywood College in Scranton, PA.
