Sister M. Maurice Marshall, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Monday, November 12, 1934, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Carbondale, PA.
She was born on February 27, 1885 in Carbondale, PA, and given the name Gertrude. She was the daughter of the late Thomas and Jane Murphy Marshall. She entered the IHM Congregation on July 2, 1903, received the religious habit on December 31, 1903, and made profession of her vows on December 28, 1905.
Sister Maurice served as a teacher at the following schools: St. Patrick School in Scranton, PA; St. John the Evangelist School in Pittston, PA; and Most Holy Rosary School in Syracuse, NY. She also served as a teacher at schools located in Pittsburgh, PA.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, William, James and Frank; and a sister, Sister M. Florence, IHM.
She is survived by three sisters, Ida Duggan of Virginia, and Clara Marshall and Anna Gerrity, both of Carbondale, PA; nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Thursday, January 24, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Rose Church in Carbondale, followed by interment at Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery in Greenfield Township, PA.
