Sister M. Macarius McDonnell, IHM

September 1, 1863 – April 16, 1946

Sister M. Macarius McDonnell, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Tuesday, April 16, 1946, at St. Patrick’s Convent in Olyphant, PA.

She was born on September 6, 1863 in Dunmore, PA and given the name Ann. She was the daughter of the late David and Catherine Langan McDonnell. She entered the IHM Congregation on July 18, 1881, received the religious habit on November 15, 1881, and made profession of her vows on September 5, 1883.

Sister Macarius served as a teacher at the following schools: St. Joseph School in Danville, PA; IHM Academy in Coeur d’Alene, ID; and St. Patrick School in Olyphant, PA. She also taught at schools located in Susquehanna Depot, PA.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Catharine Lavin and Mary McDonnell; and three brothers, Patrick, David and James.

She is survived by a brother, John of New Orleans, LA; several nieces and nephews, including Mrs. Joseph Gallahger and Helen Lavin, both of Olyphant, PA, Mrs. Edward Edwards and Joseph M. Lavin, both of New York, and Leo Lavin of Flint, MI; and a number of grandnieces and grandnephews.

The funeral will be Friday, April 19, at St. Patrick’s Church in Olyphant, followed by interment at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow, PA.
