Sister Alice Marie Tooley, IHM

Sister Alice Marie Tooley, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Wednesday, May 1, 1946, at St. Joseph’s Childrens and Maternity Hospital in Scranton, PA.

She was born on June 15, 1896 in Danville, PA, and given the name Alice Maria. She was the daughter of John F. Tooley and and the late Alice McCann Tooley. She entered the IHM Congregation on February 11, 1921, received the religious habit on August 2, 1921, and made profession of her vows on August 15, 1923.

Sister Alice Marie served as a teacher at the following schools: St. Ann School in Scranton, PA; St. Ephrem School in Brooklyn, NY; Immaculate Conception School in Pittston, PA; and Holy Rosary School in Scranton, PA.

She was preceded in death by a brother, John.

In addition to her father John, of Watertown, NY; she is also survived by two sisters, Dorothy Maloney-Phillips and Mary Elizabeth Brett, both of Watertown, NY; two brothers, Leo Thomas of Williamsport, PA, and James of Jersey City, NJ; nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be Saturday, May 4, at 9:30 a.m. in the chapel at St. Joseph’s Childrens and Maternity Hospital in Scranton, followed by interment at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow, PA.
