Sister M. Consuela McDonald, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Friday, August 4, 1967, at the Marian Convent in Scranton, PA.

She was born on March 21, 1891 in Freeland, PA, and given the name Josephine. She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Joanna Ryan McDonald. She entered the IHM Congregation on January 6, 1908, received the religious habit on April 13, 1909, and made profession of her vows on August 2, 1911.

Sister Consuela served as a teacher at the following schools: St. Cecilia Academy in Scranton, PA, from 1911 to 1913; Most Holy Rosary High School in Syracuse, NY, from 1920 to 1930; and St. Mary’s High School in Manhasset, NY, from 1953 to 1957. At South Scranton Catholic High School in Scranton, PA, she was prefect of studies and discipline, from 1947 to 1950.

At Marywood College in Scranton, PA, Sister served on the faculty teaching dramatics and oral English, from 1915 to 1920, and 1930 to 1937.

Sister Consuela served as principal at the following schools: Most Holy Rosary High School in Syracuse, NY, from 1937 to 1941; Holy Rosary High School in Scranton, PA from 1941 to 1947; and St. John the Evangelist High School in Pittston, PA, from 1950 to 1953. She also served as superior while at St. John the Evangelist Convent in Pittston.

From 1957 until the time of her death, Sister Consuela served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent.

She was preceded in death by six brothers, John, James, Frank Alphonsus, Joseph, William, and Emmett Timothy, and a sister, Clare Supple.

She is survived by nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The funeral will be Monday, August 7, at 9:30 a.m. at the Marian Convent, with interment to follow at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, PA. Friends may call on Sunday after 2:00 p.m. at the Marian Convent.
