Sister M. Claranne Nolan, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Saturday, December 1, 2001, at the Marian Convent in Scranton, PA.

She was born on June 20, 1930 in Scranton, PA, and given the name Anne Loretta. She was the daughter of the late Clarence Joseph and Annabel Margaret McGuire Nolan. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 8, 1948, made temporary profession of her vows on May 8, 1951, and final profession of her vows on August 2, 1954.

Sister Claranne served as a teacher at the following schools: Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Elementary School in Asbury Park, NJ; St. Patrick Elementary School in Spangler, PA; Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Elementary School in Altoona, PA; St. Thomas Elementary School in Providence, RI; St. Ann Elementary School in Nyack, NY; Nativity of Our Lord Elementary School in Scranton, PA, from 1971 to 1976; St. Clare Elementary School in Scranton, PA, from 1976 to 1978; Holy Rosary Elementary School in Scranton, PA, from 1978 to 1990; St. Patrick Elementary School in Scranton, PA, from 1990 to 1996; and Blessed Sacrament Elementary School on Staten Island, NY, from 1996 to 2001. She also taught at elementary schools located in Baltimore, MD, Lock Haven, PA, and Brooklyn, NY.

From 2001 until the time of her death, Sister Claranne was a prayer minister at the Marian Convent.

She earned a Bachelor of Music degree in elementary education from Marywood College, and a Master of Arts degree in music from New York University.

She is survived by a brother, Dr. James F., PhD.,  of The Villages, FL; three nephews, Michael Nolan of Jacksonville, FL, Thomas Nolan of La Grange, FL, and Paul Nolan of Maitland, FL; and four grandnephews.

The funeral will be Tuesday, December 4, at 10:30 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial at the Marian Convent, followed by interment at St. Catherine Cemetery, Moscow, PA. Friends may call on Monday after 2:00 p.m. at the Marian Convent.
