Sister M. Cecilia Loftus, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Saturday, January 20, 1923, at St. Rose’s Convent in Carbondale, PA.
She was born on December 4, 1897 in Carbondale, PA, and given the name Cecelia. She was the daughter of the late Owen and Alice Moylan Loftus. She entered the IHM Congregation on January 6, 1917, received the religious habit on August 2, 1917, and made profession of her vows on August 2, 1919.
Sister Cecilia served as a teacher at St. Rose Academy in Carbondale, PA.
She is survived by a brother, Eugene J. of Carbondale, PA; three sisters, Marie Loftus of Carbondale, PA, Alice E. Backer of Wilmington, DE, and Helen Loftus, both of Buffalo, NY; and a nephew.
The funeral will be Monday, January 22, at 10:30 a.m. with a solemn high Mass of Requiem at St. Rose of Lima Church, Carbondale, PA. Interment will be at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Carbondale.
Note: Marie Loftus’ married name was Marie Nolan.
