Sister Aloysius Marie Stroud, IHM

Sister Aloysius Marie Stroud, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Sunday, May 19, 1940, at Loretto Hospital in Chicago, IL.

She was born on May 17, 1904, in Eldred Township, PA, and given the name Laura Elizabeth. She was the daughter of the late John and Ida Smith Stroud. She entered the IHM Congregation on August 16, 1920, received the religious habit on December 28, 1920, and made profession of her vows on December 28, 1922.

Sister Aloysius Marie served as a teacher at the following schools: St. Leo School in Ashley, PA; St. Paul School in Scraton, PA; St. Dominic School in Oyster Bay, NY; Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary School in New York City, NY; IHM Academy in Coeur d’Alene, ID; and St. Lawrence Parish School in Portland, OR.

She was preceded in death by an infant brother, William.

She is survived by eight sisters, Myra Agnes Beck of Williamsport, PA, Jennie Helen Wilcox of Canton, PA, Edith Crayton of Sayre, PA, Bertha Buehler of Newberry, PA, Nina Featherstone of Williamsport, PA, Hattie Elma Wright of Rochester, NY, Nellie Wilson of Lebanon, NY, and Ruth Wilson of Lebanon, NY; five brothers, Frank Delancy of Athens, PA, John Raymond of Lebanon, NY, Lester McDole of Washington, DC, George William of Brewerton, NY, and Walter Luther of Santiago, CA; nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

The funeral will be Thursday, May 23, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Catherine’s Church, Moscow. Interment will follow at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, PA.
