Sister Virginia Mary Schaefer, IHM
June 14, 1926 – December 1, 1993

Sister Virginia Mary Schaefer, IHM, (formerly known as Sister M. Augusta) of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, died on Wednesday, December 1, 1993, at the Marian Convent in Scranton, PA.
Born on June 14, 1926, in Pittsburgh, PA, she was the daughter of the late Frank J. and Anna Wilson Schaefer. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 8, 1944, received the religious habit on May 8, 1945, and made her profession of vows on May 8, 1947.
Sister Virginia served as a teacher at schools located in the following cities: Scranton, Pittsburgh, and Carbondale, PA; Portland, OR; Coeur d’Alene, ID; and Baltimore, MD.
Sister served as principal at schools located in Pittsburgh and Cresco, PA.
Sister Virginia also served as served as a parish social minister in Pittsburgh, PA; and as office assistant in the Communications Office at the IHM Center in Scranton, PA.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Mildred Schaefer; and niece, Sister Patricia Schaefer, IHM.
She is survived by five brothers, Raymond of Harrisburg, PA, Francis and Richard of Pittsburgh, PA, James of York, PA, and Donald of Spartanburg, SC; nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Monday, December 6, at 10:00 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial at the Marian Convent. Interment will follow at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow, PA. Friends may call on Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Marian Convent.
