Sister Patricia Smith, IHM

Sister Patricia Smith, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Thursday, May 14, 1981, at Mercy Hospital in East Rockaway, NY.

She was born on August 29, 1938, in Huntington, NY, and given the name Patricia Anne. She was the daughter of the late Dr. John Edward and Anna L. Pratt Smith. She entered the IHM Congregation in Scranton on September 7, 1957, received the religious habit on March 13, 1958, and made profession of her vows on March 14, 1960.

Sister Patricia served as a teacher in the intermediate and junior high grades at schools located in New Bern, Goldsboro, Greensboro, and Washington, NC.

Sister served as principal at St. Bernadette School in Goldsboro, NC.

She also served as the religion coordinator at St. John School in Susquehanna, PA, and St. Joseph School in Danville, PA; and as a parish minister at St. Paul’s Church in New Bern, NC.

From October 1979 until the time of her death, Sister Patricia was a teacher at St. Raymond School in East Rockaway, New York.

She is survived by a sister, Edith Heinemann of Chicago, IL; a brother, John Paul of Arvada, CO; nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be Saturday, May 16, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Raymond’s Church in East Rockaway, NY, with Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow, PA. Friends may call at St. Raymond’s Convent, East Rockaway, on Friday afternoon or evening.
