Sister Mary Regina O’Neill, IHM

February 22, 1866 – April 15, 1886

Sister Mary Regina O’Neill, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Thursday, April 15, 1886, at St. Rose’s Academy in Carbondale, PA.

She was born on February 22, 1866 in Pleasant Mount, PA, and given the name Mary Catherine. She was the daughter of Thomas and Mary Cronan O’Neill. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 29, 1882, received the religious habit on March 27, 1883, and made profession of her vows on April 6, 1885.

Sister Mary Regina served as a music teacher at St. Rose Academy in Carbondale, PA.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by two sisters, Teresa (later known as Sister M. Regina, IHM) and Matilda McCormick, and a brother, Henry.

The funeral will be Friday, April 16, at St. Rose’s Academy in Carbondale, with interment to follow at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery in Carbondale, PA.


“Sister Regina’s death occurred in Saint Rose’s Novitiate, April 15, 1885 (sic), three years after her entrance to the community in her eighteenth year. She was Miss Mary O’Neill of Pleasant Mount, Wayne County. She died on the first anniversary of her profession, in her twenty-first year of life.”
