Sister Mary Clotilda Russell, IHM

April 26, 1891 – February 14, 1937

Sister Mary Clotilda Russell, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on February 14, 1937 of pneumonia at St. John’s Orphanage, Cresson, PA.

Daughter of the late David and Mary Jane Burke Russell, she was born on April 26, 1891 in Renovo, PA; and given the name Irene. She entered the IHM Congregation on August 15, 1909, received the religious habit on December 29, 1909, and made profession of her vows on December 27, 1911.

She received a degree in education from Lock Haven State Teachers College, and was on the varsity hockey team in 1930.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas; and two sisters, Sadie and Elizabeth.

She is survived by five sisters, Mary Binder, Teresa Moran, Jane Hooley, Catherine, and Alice Kertis; nieces and nephews.

Interment will follow the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, Pennsylvania.

CRESSON–Sister Mary Clotilda, 43, member of the order of the Immaculate Heart, died from pneumonia, at St John’s Orphanage where she taught. Before taking her vows 25 years ago at Scranton, she was Irene Russell, of Renovo.
