“Funeral of a Religieuse
The obsequies of Miss M. Gorman, a religieuse known in religion as Sister Celestine, who died at St. Cecilia’s academy on Saturday, took place yesterday morning at St. Vincent’s cathedral, and were attended by an unusually large congregation. Every available part of the spacious church was occupied, and the deepest interest was manifested in the proceedings. The services, which were of a most impressive character, were conducted by Right Rev. Bishop O’Hara, assisted by seventeen priests. A solemn mass of requiem was celebrated, after which the large cortege proceeded to the Hyde Park burying ground, where interment took place.
Sister Celestine was about thirty years of age, and her home prior to entering the religious order was at Friendsville, in Susquehanna county, where her parents reside at present.”
