Sister Marian Griffiths, IHM

Sister Marian Griffiths, IHM, (formerly known as Sister M. Linus) of the Congregation of Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, died Monday, March 21, 1990, at Community Medical Center in Scranton, PA.

Born on October 5, 1916, in Wilkes-Barre, PA, she the daughter of the late Henry Blaine and Mary Emma Opper Griffiths. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 8, 1945, received the religious habit on May 8, 1946, and made profession of her vows on May 9, 1948.

Sister Marian served at the following schools: St. Ann Elementary School in Scranton, PA; St. Patrick Elementary School in Scranton, PA; St. Rose Elementary School in Carbondale, PA; St. Thomas Aquinas Elementary School in Scranton, PA; St. John Elementary School in Pittston, PA; and Most Holy Rosary School in Syracuse, NY. She also taught at elementary schools located in Baltimore, MD, and Brooklyn, NY.

Sister also served as a summer librarian at Marywood College in Scranton, PA; support staff member at the Marian Convent in Scranton, PA; and as a Telespond Senior Companion at Holy Family Residence in Scranton, PA.

From 1988 until the time of her death, Sister Marian was a prayer minister at the Marian Convent.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Doris Griffiths.

She is survived by cousins.

The funeral will be Friday, March 25, at 10:00 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial at the Marian Convent. Interment will follow at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow, PA. Friends may call at the Marian Convent on Thursday afternoon or evening.
