Sister M. Yvette Ireland, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Wednesday, August 24, 1994, at the Marian Convent in Scranton, PA.
She was born on November 8, 1912 in Upper Marlboro, MD, and given the name Louise. She was the daughter of the late Joseph Albert and Mattie Brady Ireland. She entered the IHM Congregation on February 2, 1932, received the religious habit on August 2, 1932, and made profession of her vows on August 2, 1934.
Sister Yvette served as a music teacher at the following schools: St. Paul Elementary School in Scranton, PA; St. Mary of Mount Carmel Elementary School in Dunmore, PA; St. Mary Elementary School in Avoca, PA; St. John Elementary School in Susquehanna, PA; St. Mary Elementary School in Hollidaysburg, PA; Our Lady of Mount Carmel Elementary School in Altoona, PA; St. Rita Elementary School in Baltimore, MD; St. Agnes Elementary School in Baltimore, MD; and St. Paul Elementary School in Edgewood, RI.
Sister also served as music teacher at St. Patrick’s Catechetical Center in Milford, PA, and Holy Name of Mary Catechetical Center in Montrose, PA.
From 1978 until the time of her death, Sister Yvette served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, John, Joseph Albert, Jr. and William.
She is survived by a brother, Joseph of Upper Marlboro, MD; three sisters, Margaret Duley of Upper Marlboro, MD, Catherine Alexander of Philadelphia, PA, and Anne Kifer of Ormond Beach, FL; nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Saturday, August 26 at 10:00 a.m. at the Marian Convent, followed by interment at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, PA. Friends may call on Friday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Marian Convent.
Archival Remembrance:
In a most quiet, humble way, Sister Yvette Ireland lived 61 years as a Sister of IHM, before entering eternal life. She had a special gift for music and shared its beauty and richness with children. In the last 16 years of her life, Sister Yvette served the Congregation as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent. Willingly and lovingly, she bore the pain of her suffering with a twinkle in her eye and a most gentle smile. May God reward her and grant her eternal happiness.
