Sister M. Wilmett Moran, IHM

July 22, 1918 – September 22, 1993

Sister M. Wilmett Moran, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Wednesday, September 22, 1993 at the Marian Convent in Scranton, PA.

She was born on July 22, 1918 in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and given the name Helen. She was the daughter of the late William J. and Helen McGee Moran. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 8, 1936, made temporary profession of her vows on May 8, 1939, and made final profession of her vows on August 2, 1942.

Sister Wilmett served as a teacher at the following schools: St. Raymond Elementary School in East Rockaway, NY, from 1939 to 1944; St. Rita Elementary School in Baltimore, MD, from 1944 to 1950; Most Holy Rosary Elementary School in Syracuse, NY, from 1950 to 1957; St. Dominic Elementary School in Oyster Bay, NY, from 1957 to 1962; St. Matthew Elementary School in Baltimore, MD, from 1962 to 1966; St. Agnes Elementary School in Baltimore, MD, from to 1966 to 1969; St. Ephrem Elementary School in Brooklyn, NY, from 1979 to 1984; and St. Paul Elementary School in Scranton, PA, from 1986 to 1993.

Sister also served as administrator of Catholic Childcare Center in Hollidaysburg, PA, from 1969 to 1975; and a support staff member at Marian Convent in Scranton, PA, from 1975 to 1979 and 1986 to 1993.

She earned a bachelor of science degree in sociology/English, and a master of science degree in religious education, both from Marywood College.

She is preceded in death by a brother, William, and two sisters, Sister M. Nadine, IHM, and Kathryn Hollow.

She is survived by a brother, Paul of Panama City, FL, three sisters, Alice Kearney, Theresa A. Schofield and Jeanne Walsh, all of Scranton, PA, and several nieces and nephews.

Interment is at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, Pennsylvania.
