Sister M. Terence McGirr, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, died Saturday, July 25, 1992, at the Marian Convent in Scranton, PA
She was born on January 27, 1913 in Port Washington, NY, and given the name Rose M. She was the daughter of the late Patrick and Catherine Gellis McGirr. She entered the IHM Congregation on February 2, 1935, was received into the novitiate on August 2, 1935, and made profession of her vows on August 2, 1937.
Sister Terence served as a teacher at the following schools: St. Ann School in Scranton, PA; St. John the Evangelist School in Scranton, PA; St. Dominic School in Oyster Bay, NY; and St. Paul School in Edgewood, RI. She also served as a teacher at schools located in Maryland and New York.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Catherine McGirr and Ann McGirr; and a brother, Thomas.
She is survived by two brothers, Terrence P. of Tenafly, NJ, and Reverend Patrick J. of Bayside, NY; three sisters, Mary Howard and Margaret McGirr, both of Flushing, NY, and Sister Catherine Patricia, IHM, of Scranton, PA; nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Tuesday, July 28, at 10:30 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial at the Marian Convent, with interment to follow at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow, PA. Friends may call at the Marian Convent on Monday afternoon or evening.
