Sister Jane Berube, IHM

February 27, 1916 – July 31, 1992

Sister Jane Berube, IHM, (formerly known as Sister M. Carmelita) of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, died Friday, July 31, 1992 at the Marian Convent in Scranton, Pennsylvania, after an illness.

She was born on February 27, 1916 in Central Falls, Rhode Island, and was the daughter of the late Philip and Leda Charette Berube. She entered the IHM Congregation on February 2, 1937, received the religous habit on August 2, 1937, and made profession of her vows on August 2, 1939.

Sister Jane served as a primary teacher at the following schools: Chapel Elementary School in Scranton, PA; St. Ambrose Elementary School in Bridgeport, CT; St. John the Evangelist Elementary School in Binghamton, NY; St. Ann Elementary School in Scranton, PA; St. Mary Elementary School in Manhasset, NY; and St. Paul School in Cranston, RI.

Sister Jane later served as an Licensed Practical Nurse in Johnston, RI, at the Marian Covent in Scranton, PA, and at Hospice of PA in Scranton, PA. She also served as a telespond volunteer in Scranton, PA.

From 1991 until the time of her death, Sister Jane served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent.

She is preceded in death by a brother Leo, and sister, Fernande DiStefano.

She is survived by nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be Monday, August 3 at 10:00 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial at the Marian Convent Chapel. Interment will follow the Mass on Monday at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow, Pennsylvania. Friends may call at the Marian Convent Sunday afternoon or evening.
