Sister M. Rose Shanahan, IHM

Sister M. Rose Shanahan, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on December 31, 1966, at St. Paul’s Convent in Edgewood, RI.

She was born on April 26, 1910 in Pompey, NY, and given the name Mary. She was the daughter of the late Edward J. and Anna G. Oley Shanahan. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 8, 1929, received the religious habit on April 21, 1930, and made profession of her vows on April 21, 1932.

Sister Rose served as a teacher at the following schools: St. Thomas Regional School in Providence, RI, from 1932 to 1933; Sacred Heart of Mary School in Jermyn, from 1933 to 1935; St. Joseph School in Williamsport, from 1935 to 1940; St. Peter of Alcantara School in Port Washington, NY, from 1940 to 1941; St. Patrick School in Oneida, NY, from 1941 to 1949; Holy Rosary School in Scranton, from 1949 to 1953; and Most Holy Rosary School in Syracuse, NY, from 1953 to 1957.

From 1957 until the time of her death, Sister Rose taught at St. Paul School in Edgewood, RI.

A Mass of Requiem will be held on Tuesday, January, 3, at St. Paul’s Church in Edgewood, RI. The funeral will be Wednesday, January 4, at 9:30 a.m. at the Marian Conventin Scranton, PA. Interment will be at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow, PA.
