Sister M. Rosalita Smith, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Saturday, November 24, 1973, at the Marian Convent in Scranton, PA.
She was born on June 30, 1894, in Saratoga Springs, NY, and given the name Mary. She was the daughter of the late Peter J. and Elizabeth Burns Smith. She entered the IHM Congregation on March 25, 1914, received the religious habit on August 2, 1914, and made profession of her vows on August 2, 1916.
Sister Rosalita served as an teacher in the following schools: St. Leo Elementary School in Ashley, PA; St. Andrew Elementary School in Portland, OR; St. Lawrence Elementary School in Portland, OR; IHM Academy in Coeur d’Alene, ID; St. Bernard Elementary School in Hastings, PA; St. John the Evangelist Elementary School in Pittston, PA; St. Peter Cathedral Elementary School in Scranton, PA; St. Joseph Elementary School in Williamsport, PA; St. Raymond Elementary School in Lynbrook, NY; and St. Patrick Elementary School in Oneida, NY.
The funeral will be Monday, November 26, at 9:30 a.m. at the Marian Convent, with interment to follow at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, PA. Friends may call Sunday at the Marian Convent.
