Sister M. Kostka Sick, IHM

Sister M. Kostka Sick, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Tuesday, January 22, 1974, at the Marian Convent in Scranton, PA.

She was born on September 17, 1883, in Dushore, PA, and given the name Jane. She was the daughter of the late Wendell and Sarah McDonald Sick. She entered the IHM Congregation on August 15, 1903, received the religious habit on December 31, 1903, and made profession of her vows on December 28, 1905.

Sister Kostka served as a teacher in the following schools: St. Leo Elementary School in Ashley, PA; St. Patrick Elementary School in Scranton, PA; St. Patrick Elementary School in Olyphant, PA; Holy Rosary Elementary School in Scranton, PA; St. Thomas Aquinas Elementary School in Archbald, PA; St. Mary of the Assumption Elementary School in Upper Marlboro, MD; Sacred Hearts Elementary School in La Plata, MD; St. Ann Elementary School in Scranton, PA; St. Cecilia Elementary School in Exeter, PA; and Our Lady of Grace Elementary School in Manhasset, NY.

Sister served superior at the following: St. Thomas Aquinas Convent in Archbald, PA, from 1928 to 1929; Sacred Hearts Convent in La Plata, MD, from 1931 to 1936; St. Joseph’s Hospital Convent in Carbondale, PA, from 1936 to 1938; St. Ann’s Convent in Scranton, PA, from 1938 to 1941; and St. Cecilia’s Convent in Exeter, PA, from 1941 to 1943.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Francis Jerome and John Charles.

She is survived by two brothers, Leo Joseph and William P. both of Dushore, PA; nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

The funeral will be Friday, January 25, at 9:30 a.m. at the Marian Convent. Interment will be at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, PA. Friends may call on Wednesday, 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. or 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Marian Convent.
