Sister M. Kostka Sick, IHM

September 16, 1884 – January 22, 1974

Sister M. Kostka Sick, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on January 22, 1974 at the Marian Convent in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

Daughter of the late Wendell and Sarah McDonald Sick, she was born on September 17, 1883 in Dushore, Pennsylvania; and given the name Jane. She entered the IHM Congregation on August 15, 1903, received the religious habit on December 31, 1903, and made profession of her vows on December 28, 1905.

Sister Kostka served as a teacher in the following schools: St. Leo in Ashley, PA; St. Patrick in Scranton, PA; St. Patrick in Olyphant, PA; Holy Rosary in Scranton, PA; St. Thomas Aquinas in Archbald, PA; St. Mary of the Assumption in Upper Marlboro, MD; Sacred Hearts in La Plata, MD; St. Ann in Scranton, PA; St. Cecilia in Wyoming, PA; and Our Lady of Grace in Manhasset, NY.

Sister served a superior at the following convents: St. Thomas Aquinas in Archbald, PA, from 1928 to 1929; Sacred Hearts in La Plata, MD, from 1931 to 1936; St. Joseph’s Hospital in Carbondale, PA, from 1936 to 1938; St. Ann in Scranton, PA, from 1938 to 1941; and St. Cecilia in Wyoming, PA, from 1941 to 1943.

She is preceded in death by two brothers, Francis Jerome, and John Charles.

She is survived by two brothers, Leo Joseph and William P. both of Dushore; nieces and nephews; grandnieces and grandnephews.

Interment will follow the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, Pennsylvania.
