Sister M. Rosa Recktenwald, IHM

Sister M. Rosa Recktenwald, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, died Monday, April 12, 1982, at the Marian Convent in Scranton, PA.
She was born on November 15, 1896 in Louisville, KY, and given the name Catherine. She was the daughter of the late Bernard and Catherine Tighe Recktenwald. By 1899 the family was living in Pittsburgh, PA. She entered the IHM Congregation on July 2, 1915, received the religious habit on December 30, 1915, and made profession of her vows on January 3, 1918.
Sister Rosa served as a teacher at the following schools: St. Michael’s Industrial School for Boys in Hoban Heights, PA; St. Cecilia Academy in Scranton, PA; St. Ann High School in Scranton, PA; St. John the Evangelist School in Pittston, PA; St. Cecillia School in Exeter, PA; St. John School in Susquehanna, PA; St. Joseph School in Williamsport, PA; St. Bernard School in Hastings, PA; St. Basil School in Dushore, PA; and Our Lady of Good Counsel School in Inwood, NY. She also taught at schools located in Pittsburgh and Masontown, PA.
She was preceded in death by five brothers, Lambert G., Raymond Henry, Charles, Bernard Anthony and Norbert Joseph, and a sister, Rose C. Recktenwald.
She is is survived by a brother, Reverend Edward Joseph, CSSp, chaplain at Holy Redeemer Motherhouse in Elizabeth, PA; a sister-in-law, Lucille Recktenwald of Pittsburgh, PA; a niece, Victoria Recktenwald; and a cousin, Sister M. Gonzales McGowan, IHM, of the Marian Convent in Scranton, PA.
The funeral will be Wednesday, April 14, 9:30 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial at the Marian Convent, followed by interment will follow at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow, PA. Friends may call at the Marian Convent Tuesday afternoon or evening.
