Sister M. Rosa Recktenwald, IHM

Sister M. Rosa Recktenwald of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, died Monday, April 12, 1982, at the Marian Convent after an illness.
Born in Louisville, Kentucky on November 15, 1896, Sister Rosa was daughter of the late Bernard and Catherine Tighe Recktenwald of Pittsburgh, PA. She entered the I.H.M. Congregation on July 2, 1915, received the religious habit on December 30, 1915, and made profession of her vows on January 3, 1918.
During her long and varied teaching career, Sister Rosa served on the faculty of St. Michael’s Industrial School at Whites Ferry; St. Cecilia Academy ar St. Ann’s High School, Scranton; St. John’s, Pittston; St. Cecilia’s, Exeter;St. John’s, Susquehanna; and St. Joseph’s, Williamsport. She also taught at I.H.M. schools in Pittsburgh, Masontown, Hastings, Dushore, PA, and Inwood, NY, until the time of her retirement to the Marian Convent because of poor health.
She is preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and Norbert Joseph.
Sister Rosa is survived by a brother, Rev. Edward J. Recktenwald, chaplain at Holy Redeemer Motherhouse in Elizabeth, PA; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Lucille Recktenwald, Pittsburgh; a niece, Victoria Recktenwald; and a cousin, Sister M. Gonzales McGowan, Marian Convent, Scranton.
The funeral will be Wednesday; with Mass of Christian Burial in the Marian Convent Chapel at 9:30 a.m. Interment will be at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow, Pennsylvania. Friends may call at the Marian Convent Tuesday afternoon or evening.
