Sister M. Pulcheria Longe, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Tuesday, August 29, 2000, at the Marian Convent in Scranton, PA
She was born on December 4, 1916 in Renovo, PA, and given the name Theresa Ellen. She was the daughter of the late Thomas and Bridget Coughlin Longe. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 8, 1935, made temporary profession of her vows on May 2, 1938, and final profession of her vows on August 2, 1941.
Sister Pulcheria served as a teacher at the following schools: Holy Rosary Elementary School in Scranton, PA, from 1938 to 1953; Our Lady of Peace Elementary School in Clarks Green, PA, from 1954 to 1955; St. Mary, Help of Christians Elementary School in Pittston, PA, in 1963; Epiphany Elementary School in Sayre, PA, from 1980 to 1988; St. Joseph Elementary School in Williamsport, PA, from 1988 to 1993; St. Joseph Elementary School in Renovo, PA; St. Raymond Elementary School in East Rockaway, NY; St. John the Evangelist Elementary School in Silver Spring, MD; St. Joseph Elementary School in New Bern, NC; and Sacred Heart Elementary School in Mount Holly, NJ. She also taught at schools located in Lock Haven, PA, and Manhasset, NY.
From 1993 until the time of her death, Sister Pulcheria served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent.
She earned a Bachelor of Arts a degree in business from Marywood College.
She was preceded in death by three sisters, Margaret (infant), Kathryn Irene (infant) and Alice Cleveland, and three brothers, infant boy, John R. (infant) and Thomas F., Jr.
She is survived by a brother, William T. of Renovo, PA; and three nephews, Thomas F. Longe, III of Grantville, PA, William T., Jr. of Miami, FL, and Charles D. Cleveland of Pembrooke, FL.
The funeral will be Friday, September 1 at 10:30 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial at the Marian Convent, followed by interment at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow, PA. Friends may call on Thursday between 2:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. at the Marian Convent.
