Sister M. Philip Maria Dreistadt, IHM

Sister M. Philip Maria Dreistadt, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Saturday, May 10, 1980.

She was born on September 15, 1909 in Old Forge, PA, and given the name Catherine. She was the daughter of the late Philip and Mary Theresa Small Dreistadt. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 24, 1927, made temporary profession of her vows on December 27, 1929, and made final profession of her vows on August 1, 1933.

Sister Philip Maria served as a teacher in the following schools: St. Mary of the Mount Elementary School in Pittsburgh, PA, from 1930 to 1937; St. Joseph Elementary School in Renovo, PA, from 1937 to 1939; Holy Rosary Elementary School in Scranton, PA, from 1939 to 1940; Immaculate Conception Elementary School in West Pittston, PA, from 1940 to 1941; St. Rosalia Elementary School in Pittsburgh, PA, from 1941 to 1945; St. Ann Elementary School in Devon, CT, from 1945 to 1946; St. Agnes Elementry School in Washington, NC, from 1946 to 1950; St. Mary Elementary School in Avoca, PA, from 1950 to 1954; Sacred Hearts Elementary School in New York, NY, from 1954 to 1956; St. Raymond Elementary School in Lynbrook, NY, from 1956 to 1969; St. Dominic Elementary School in Oyster Bay, NY, from 1960 to 1961; St. Joseph Elementary School in Williamsport, PA, from 1961 to 1963; and St. Peter of Alcantara Elementary School in Port Washington, NY, from 1963 to 1970.

From 1970 until the time of her death, Sister Philip Maria served as an aide in the health office at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Elementary School in Forest Hills, NY.

She is preceded in death by a sister.

She is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Garvin of Lackawanna, NY, and Mrs. Mary Cosgrove of Orange, NJ, nieces and nephews.

Interment is at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, Pennsylvania.
