Sister M. Philip Clarey, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Saturday, September 23, 1950 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Carbondale, PA
She was born on April 29, 1860 in Belvidere, NJ, and given the name Julia. She was the daughter of the late Patrick and Margaret Agen Clarey. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 17, 1888, received the religious habit on December 27, 1888, and made profession of her vows on August 2, 1891.
Sister Philip served as a nurse at St. Rose School in Carbondale, PA; St. Cecilia Academy in Scranton, PA; and St. Agnes Place in Elmhurst, PA.
She is preceded in death by two sisters, Sister M. Angela, IHM, and Margaret Dwyer, and a brother, John.
She is survived by a brother, James of Rochester, NY; and several nieces and nephews, including Thomas and Julia of White Haven, PA, Edward of Brooklyn, NY, and Mary, Nellie, John, Edward and William Dwyer of Bethlehem, PA.
The funeral will be on Tuesday, September 26 at 10 a.m. at St. Catherine’s Church in Moscow, PA, followed by interment at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow. Friends may call on Monday after 2:00 p.m. at St. Agnes Place in Elmhurst, PA.
