Sister M. Anina Sullivan, IHM

Sister M. Anina Sullivan, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Tuesday, October 17, 1950, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Scranton, PA.

She was born on June 25, 1875, in Owego, NY, and given the name Margaret J. She was the daughter of the late John and Anna Bahen Sullivan. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 8, 1903, received the religious habit on December 31, 1903, and made profession of her vows on December 28, 1905.

Sister Anina served as a muisc teacher at the following schools: St. Paul Elementary School in Scranton, PA; St. Joseph Elementary School in Danville, PA; St. Patrick Elementary School in Scranton, PA: St. Patrick Elementary School in Olyphant, PA; Holy Rosary Elementary School in Scranton, PA; and St. Mary Elementary School in Hollidaysburg, PA.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Genevieve Hoppel; three brothers, Michael, Maurice, and Richard Aloysius; and an aunt in community, Sister M. Chrystostom Bahen, IHM.

She is survived by a brother, John Lawrence of Scranton, PA; and four sisters, Sister M. Dominic Sullivan, IHM, of St. Thomas Aquinas Convent in Archbald, PA, Mary Donnelly of Binghamton, NY, Theresa Hoar, Veronica and Anna F. Sullivan, all of Scranton, PA. She is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews, including, Sister M. Michael, of Marywood College in Scranton, PA, and the Reverend Cyril Donnelly, OFM, at St. Francis Church in New York. She was a cousin of the Reverend John Colligan, SJ, of Georgetown University.

The funeral will be Thursday, October 19, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Catherine’s Church in Moscow. Interment will follow at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow, PA. Friends may call on Wednesday at St. Agnes Place in Elmhurst, PA.
