Sister M. Leocadia Lynott, IHM

July 20, 1864 – September 16, 1950

Sister M. Leocadia Lynott, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Friday, September 15, 1950, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Carbondale, PA.

She was born on July 18, 1865 in Scranton, PA, and given the name Mary Ellen. She was the daughter of the late Thomas and Margaret McNulty Lynott. She entered the IHM Congregation on July 11, 1888, received the religious habit on December 27, 1888, and made profession of her vows on August 2, 1891.

Sister Leocadia served as a teacher at the following schools: Laurel Hill Academy in Susquehanna, PA; St. John the Evangelist Elementary School in Pittston, PA; and Marywood Seminary in Scranton, PA.

Sister served as principal and superior at the following schools: St. Patrick Elementary School in Spangler, PA; St. Mary Elementary School in Avoca, PA; Immaculate Conception Elementary School in West Pittston, PA; and Our Lady of Mount Carmel Elementary School in Altoona, PA.

She was preceded in death by five brothers, Michael, Peter, Patrick, Reverend John E. and William, and a sister, Katherine Lynott.

She is survived by a brother, Thomas of Scranton, PA; and several nieces and nephews, including Sister Mary Robert, RSM, stationed at Mercy Hospital, Wilkes-Barre, PA.

The funeral will be Tuesday, September 19 at 9:30 a.m. in the chapel at Marywood College in Scranton, followed by interment at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, PA.
