Sister M. Olivia Reilly, IHM

Sister M. Olivia Reilly, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Monday, March 2, 1970, at Moses Taylor Hospital in Scranton, PA

She was born on July 11, 1889 in Honesdale, PA, and given the name Isabelle. She was the daughter of the late John C. and Catherine Hannon Reilly. She entered the IHM Congregation on March 24, 1925, received the religious habit on August 15, 1925, and made profession of her vows on August 15, 1927.

Sister Olivia was an accomplished musician and served as a music teacher at the following schools: St. Joseph School in Renovo, PA, from 1927 to 1928; St. John the Evangelist Elementary School in Bellefonte, PA, from 1928 to 1929; St. Joseph School in Danville, PA, from 1929 to 1934; St. Paul School in Scranton, PA, from 1934 to 1936; St. Cecilia School in Exeter, PA, from 1936 to 1940; Immaculate Conception Elementary School in Pittston, PA, from 1940 to 1941; St. Ann School in Scranton, PA, from 1941 to 1945; St. Leo School in Ashley, PA, from 1945 to 1950; Sacred Heart of Mary School in Jermyn, PA, from 1950 to 1953; St. John the Evangelist School in Scranton, PA, from 1953 to 1955; St. Ephrem School in Brooklyn, from 1955 to 1961; and St. Rose School in Carbondale, PA, from 1962 to 1968.

From 1968 until the time of her death, Sister Olivia was a prayer minister at the Marian Convent in Scranton.

She was preceded in death by four sisters, Olive Burkett, Marcella Reilley, Mary Dardis and Anna Reilly; and three brothers, William, John and Matthew.

She is survived by two nieces, Martha Grall of Edison, NJ, and Margaret Reilly of Jersey City, NJ.

The funeral will be Thursday, March 5, at 9:30 a.m. at the Marian Convent. Interment will follow at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, PA. Friends may call at the Marian Convent on Tuesday and Wednesday at their convenience.
