Sister M. Matilda O’Boyle, IHM

March 26, 1893 – February 12, 1970

Sister M. Matilda O’Boyle, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Thursday, February 12, 1970 at Moses Taylor Hospital in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

She was born on March 26, 1893 in Archbald, Pennsylvania, and given the name Katherine Earley. She was the daughter of the late William and Bridget McLain Earley, and the adopted-daughter of the late Patrick and Matilda Maloney O’Boyle. She entered the IHM Congregation on May 31, 1922, received the religious habit on August 15, 1922, and made profession of her vows on August 15, 1924.

Sister Matilda served as a teacher in the following schools: St. Patrick Elementary School in Spangler, PA; St. Mary of the Mount Elementary School in Pittsburgh, PA; St. Mary-John School in Cresson, PA; St. Patrick Elementary School in Oneida, NY; St. Patrick Elementary School in White Haven, PA; and St. Bernard Parochial School in Hastings, PA.

Sister served in child cared for resident children at St. Mary’s Home in Cresson, PA. She also served as a catechetical instructor at St. Peter’s Cathechetical Center in Wellsboro, PA.

She was preceded in death by an infant brother, William.

Interment is at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, Pennsylvania.
