Sister M. Noel Michalek, IHM

Sister M. Noel Michalek, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Sunday, October 9, 1994, at the Marian Convent in Scranton, PA.

She was born on September 9, 1913 in Ferdinand, ID, and given the name Christine Cecilia. She was the daughter of the late Henry G. and Mary Bauer Michalek. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 18, 1931, made first profession of her vows on April 24, 1934 and final profession of her vows on August 1, 1937.

Sister Noel served as a teacher at the following schools: St. Mary-John School in Cresson, PA; All Saints Elementary School in Masontown, PA; Most Holy Rosary in Syracuse, NY; St. Paul Elementary School in Cranston, RI; St. Edward Elementary School in Twin Falls, ID; St. Henry Elementary School in Gresham, OR; and the IHM Academy in Coeur d’Alene, ID. She also taught at elementary schools located in New York City, NY.

At the Educational Enrichment Institute at the IHM Center in Scranton, PA, she served as an instructor, from 1989 to 1992.

From 1992 until the time of her death, Sister Noel was a prayer minister at the Marian Convent.

She is survived by an aunt, Theresa Edna Boerner of Pilot Point, TX, and cousins.

The funeral will be Wednesday, October 12, at 10:00 a.m. at the Marian Convent, followed by interment at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow, PA. Friends may call at the Marian Convent on Tuesday, after 2:00 p.m.

Archival Remembrance:

Sister Noel lived out the spirit of her Western heritage with gentleness and great-heartedness in ministry with children and families, serving as a junior high and intermediate teacher. She continued to be a source of light and love for children as a tutor in the Educational Enrichment Institute at the IHM Center. With the same gentleness and graciousness with which she lived, Sister Noel passed on to eternal life on October 9, at the Marian Convent.
