Sister M. Monice Sullivan, IHM

Sister M. Monice Sullivan, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Monday, June 1, 1970, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Carbondale, PA.

She was born on July 21, 1905, in Pittsburgh, PA, and given the name Martha. She was the daughter of the late John B. and Elizabeth Wunder Sullivan. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 8, 1931, received the religious habit on April 21, 1932, and made profession of her vows on April 24, 1934.

Sister Monice served as a teacher in the following schools: St. Ephrem Elementary School in Brooklyn, NY; St. Paul Elementary School in Scranton, PA; Holy Rosary Elementary School in Syracuse, NY; St. John the Evangelist Elementary School in Pittston, PA; St. Alphonsus Elementary School in New York, NY; All Saints Elementary School in Masontown, PA; St. Joseph Elementary School in Danville, PA; St. Rosalia Elementary School in Pittsburgh, PA; St. Joseph Elementary School in Williamsport, PA; and Our Lady of Good Counsel Elementary School in Inwood, RI.

She is survived by three brothers, Reverend Edward P. Sullivan, SJ, stationed in the Philipines, John B. Jr. and Robert, both of Pittsburgh, PA; six sisters, Sister M. Paulinus Sullivan, IHM, stationed at Marywood College in Scranton, PA, Sister M. Davida Sullivan, IHM, stationed in Uniondale, NY, Katharine Sullivan, Marie Maloy, Eleanor Alton, and Betty Jane Franz, all of Pittsburgh, PA; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

The funeral will be Thursday, June 4, at 9:30 a.m. at the Marian Convent in Scranton. Interment will follow at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, PA. Friends may call on Wednesday at the Marian Convent.
