Sister M. Mildred Kennedy, IHM

Sister M. Mildred Kennedy, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Friday, May 9, 1930, at St. Mary’s Keller Memorial Hosptial in Scranton, PA.
She was born on October 8,1868 in Scranton, PA, and given the name Catherine. She was the daughter of the late Thomas A. and Cecilia O’Malley Kennedy. She entered the IHM Congregation on January 5, 1893, received the religious habit on July 4, 1893, and made profession of her vows on July 1, 1895.
Sister Mildred was a registered nurse. In 1900 along with two other sisters, she started the St. Joseph’s Foundling Home in Scranton, PA. Later, Sister Mildred served as the pediatric nursing supervisor at St. Joseph’s Children’s and Maternity Hospital in Scranton, PA.
She is survived by a five brothers, Michael M., Thomas, Reverend Richard Alphonsus, John J. and Francis; a sister Sister Mary Pierina, IHM, at Marywood Seminary in Scranton, PA; nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Monday, May 12 at 9:30 a.m. in the chapel at St. Joseph’s Children’s and Maternity Hospital, followed by interment at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, PA.
