Sister M. Maura Fleury, IHM

Sister M. Maura Fleury, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, died Friday, March 25, 1983, at the Mercy Hospital in Scranton, PA.
She was born on April 23, 1899 in Walden, NY, and given the name Ann. She was the daughter of the late John and Anne Shea Fleury. She entered the IHM Congregation on May 24, 1921, received the religious habit on August 2, 1921, and made profession of her vows on August 15, 1923.
During her fifty-three years of teaching, Sister Maura taught intermediate and junior high grades at the following schools: Most Holy Rosary School in Syracuse, NY; Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Elementary School in Forest Hills, NY; St. Peter of Alcantara Elementary School in Port Washington, NY; St. John the Evangelist Elementary School in Clinton, MD; St. Mary Elementary School in Upper Marlboro, MD; St. Leo Elementary School in Ashley, PA; and St. John the Evangelist Elementary School in Binghamton, NY. She also served as a teacher at elementary schools located in Manhasset, NY, and Lock Haven, PA.
From 1976 until the time of her death, Sister Maura served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent in Scranton, PA.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Catherine Jane Everett and Agnes Gertrude Ryan, and two brothers, John and Joseph.
She is survived by a brother, William James Fleury of East Port, ME, a nephew, and several nieces.
The funeral will be Monday, March 28 with Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at the Marian Convent. Interment will follow at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow, PA. Friends may call on Sunday after 2:00 p.m. at the Marian Convent.
