Marion Hewitt, IHM

Sister M. Marion Hewitt, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Saturday, October 6, 1945, at St. Mary’s Convent in Dunmore, PA.

She was born on August 15, 1864 in Wyoming, PA, and given the name Nora. She was the daughter of the late Bernard and Honora Barry Hewitt. She entered the IHM Congregation on March 25, 1891, received the religious habit on August 2, 1891, and made profession of her vows on April 3, 1893.

Sister Marion served as a teacher at the following schools: St. Paul School in Scranton, PA; St. Mary of the Mount School in Pittsburgh, PA; St. John School in Susquehanna, PA; and St. Mary of Mount Carmel School in Dunmore, PA.

She was preceded in death by a brother, James, and three sisters, Mary, Helen, and Sister M. Alexis, IHM.

She is survived by two nephews, John Gibbons of New York, and Joseph Gibbons of Philadelphia, PA.

The funeral will be Monday, October 8 at 9:30 a.m. in St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, PA. Interment will follow at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow. Friends may call on Sunday afternoon at St. Agnes Place in Elmhurst, PA.

Note: Mother’s first name could have also been Hannah.
