Sister M. Margaret Kearney, IHM

January 21, 1866 – November 7, 1937

Sister M. Margaret Kearney, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Sunday, November 7, 1937, at St. Agnes Place in Elmhurst, PA.

She was born on January 21, 1866 in Parsons, PA, and given the name Alice. She was the daughter of the late Patrick and Ann E. Mahon Kearney. She entered the IHM Congregation on May 24, 1889, received the religious habit on October 3, 1889, and made profession of her vows on August 2, 1891.

Sister Margaret served as a teacher at the following schools: St. Cecilia Academy in Scranton, PA; St. John High School in Pittston, PA; St. Joseph High School in Williamsport, PA; Sacred Heart High School in New York City, NY; and Sacred Heart School in LaPlata, MD.

Sister served as principal and superior at All Saints School in Masontown, PA. She also served as director of the Novitiate Normal School at Marywood College in Scranton, PA.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Jennie McNamara, and three brothers, Michael, William, and Daniel.

She is survived by four sisters, Sister M. Margaret, IHM, Sister M. Victoria, IHM, Sister Margaret de Chantal, VHM, of Wilmington DE, and Katie Mundy of Wilkes-Barre, PA; and two brothers, Reverend Richard A., TOR, stationed in Altoona, PA, and Frank of New York City, NY.

The funeral will be Tuesday, November 9 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Catherine’s Church in Moscow, PA. Interment will follow at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow.
