“Sister Marcelia, one of the youngest members of the Order of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, died yesterday afternoon at St. Agnes Place, Elmhurst, following a long illness. She was 21 years of age.
Before entering the convent, Sister Marcelia was Miss Catherine McAndrews, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John J. McAndrews, of 1627 Church avenue, North Scranton. She graduated from Holy Rosary High School in 1923 and matriculated at Marywood College. In her sophmore year, she entered the novitiate and about a year and a half ago she was assigned a position on the faculty of St. Dominick’s (sic) convent, Oyster Bay.
Taken ill last fall, she was removed to St. Agnes Place shortly before Christmas. Until a week ago her condition was not alarming, but then she began to sink until her death resulted. Her passing removes a brilliant and beloved young woman and is a decided loss to the order of which she was a member.”
