Sister M. Lucina Mullen, IHM

August 1, 1887 – October 5, 1967

Sister M. Lucina Mullen, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Thursday, October 5, 1967, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Carbondale, PA.

She was born on August 1, 1888 in Archbald, PA, and given the name Laura. She was the daughter of the late John and Bridget Gallagher Mullen. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 29, 1915, received the religious habit on December 28, 1915, and made profession of her vows on January 3, 1918.

Sister Lucina served as a teacher at the following schools: St. Michael’s Industrial School for Boys in Hoban Heights, PA, from 1918 to 1923; St. Patrick Elementary School in White Haven, PA, from 1923 to 1925; Laurel Hill Academy in Susquehanna, PA, from 1925 to 1938; Epiphany Elementary School in Sayre, PA, from 1938 to 1944; and St. John the Evangelist Elementary School in Binghamton, NY, from 1950 to 1953.

Sister served as principal and superior at St. Mary Elementary School in Avoca, PA, from 1953 to 1959.

Sister Lucina also served as the administrator of St. Joseph’s Hospital in Carbondale, PA, from 1944 to 1950.

From 1959 until the time of her death, Sister Lucina served as a teacher at St. John the Evangelist Elementary School in Scranton, PA.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, Catherine (Katie) Mullen, Beatrice Radle and Sister M. Crescentia Mullen, IHM.

She is survived by a brother, John Joseph of Archbald, PA, and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be Saturday, October 7, at 9:30 a.m. at the Marian Convent, followed by interment at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow, PA. Friends may call on Friday afternoon or evening at the Marian Convent.
