Sister M. Joseph Maloney, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Wednesday, June 25, 1930, at Marwood College in Scranton, PA.
She was born on November 27, 1872 in Scranton, PA, and given the name Catherine. She was the daughter of the late Peter and Mary Gallagher Maloney. She entered the IHM Congregation on July 2, 1891, received the religious habit on December 28, 1891, and made profession of her vows on December 28, 1893.
Sister Joseph served as a teacher at St. Cecilia Academy in Scranton, PA, and Mount St. Mary’s Seminary in Scranton, PA. She also taught at Marywood College in Scranton, PA.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Bridget and Jane; and a brother, Peter Jr.
She is survived by four brothers, Patrick of Pawtucket, RI, James and William, both of Scranton, PA, and Andrew of Dunmore, PA; a sister, Mary Maloney of Scranton, PA; three nieces and a nephew.
The funeral will be Friday, June 27 at 9:00 p.m, with Mass of Christian Burial in the chapel at Marywood College, followed by interment at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, PA.
