Sister M. John Joseph Moore, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Thursday, April 29, 1999, at the Marian Convent in Scranton, PA.

She was born on October 9, 1907 in Wilmore, PA, and given the name Mary Elizabeth. She was the daughter of the late William J. and Winifred A. Conley Moore. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 8, 1926, made temporary profession of her vows on January 2, 1929, and final profession of her vows on August 2, 1932.

Sister John Joseph served as a teacher at the following schools: St. Paul High School in Scranton, PA, from 1929 to 1942; St. Patrick High School in Olyphant, PA, from 1942 to 1945; Laurel Hill Academy in Susquehanna, PA, from 1945 to 1946 and 1963 to 1968; Wyoming Area Catholic Elementary School in Exeter, PA, from 1970 to 1975; St. Joseph High School in Renovo, PA; St. Joseph High School in Danville, PA; St. Mary-John School in Cresson, PA; and Archbishop Neale School in La Plata, MD. She also taught at schools located in Pittsburgh, PA.

From 1981 until the time of her death, Sister John Joseph was a prayer minister at the Marian Convent.

She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English/social studies and a Master of Science degree in religious education, both from Marywood College.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Ernest J., and a sister, Mary T. Martin.

She is survived by a sister, Jeanne J. Moore of Altoona, PA; and a brother, Thomas of New York City, NY; nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be Tuesday, May 4, at 10:30 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial at the Marian Convent, followed by interment at St. Catherine Cemetery, Moscow, PA. Friends may call at the Marian Convent on Monday, after 2:00 p.m.
