Sister M. John Baptist Hale, IHM

Sister M. John Baptist Hale, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, died Monday, October 18, 1982, at Moses Taylor Hospital in Scranton, PA, after an illness.

She was born on November 17, 1891 in Scranton, PA, and given the name Lucy. She was the daughter of the late Anthony and Matilda Corcoran Hale. She entered the IHM Congregation on August 15, 1917, received the religious habit on January 3, 1918, and made profession of her vows on December 27, 1919.

Sister John Baptist served as a primary and intermediate grade teacher at the following local schools: Marywood Seminary in Scranton, PA; St. John the Evangelist Elementary School in Pittston, PA; St. Cecilia Elementary School in Wyoming, PA; St. Leo Elementary School in Ashley, PA; St. Patrick Elementary School in White Haven, PA; St. Mary-John School in Cresson, PA; St. Thomas Aquinas Elementary School in Archbald, PA; and St. Matthew Elementary School in Wilmington, DE. She also taught at schools located in Pittsburgh, PA.

From 1967 until the time of her death, Sister John Baptist served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent.

She was preceded in death by a brother, William.

The funeral will be Wednesday, with Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at the Marian Convent, followed by Interment at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow, PA. Friends may call Tuesday afternoon or evening at the Marian Convent.
