Sister M. Innocenta Rouse, IHM

Sister M. Innocenta Rouse, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Wednesday, June 26, 1968, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Carbondale, PA.
She was born on August 1, 1891, in Dushore, PA, and given the name Mary Elizabeth. She was the daughter of the late Thomas and Mary Carroll Rouse. She entered the IHM Congregation on March 25, 1909, received the religious habit on December 28, 1909, and made profession of her vows on December 27, 1911.
Sister Innocenta served as a teacher at the following schools: Laurel Hill Academy in Susquehanna, PA, from 1912 to 1919; St. Rosalia School in Pittsburgh, PA, from 1919 to 1922; St. Joseph School in Renovo, PA, from 1922 to 1928; St. Patrick School in Olyphant, PA, from 1928 to 1929; St. Cecilia School in Exeter, PA, from 1929 to 1934; St. John the Evangelist School in Pittston, PA, from 1934 to 1935, 1937 to 1938, and 1946 to 1949; St. Thomas Aqinas School in Archbald, PA, from 1935 to 1937 and 1955 to 1957; Holy Rosary School in Scranton, PA, from 1938 to 1941 and 1952 to 1954; St. John the Evangelist School in Scranton, PA, from 1941 to 1942; All Saints School in Masontown, PA, from 1942 to 1943; St. Joseph School in Williamsport, PA, from 1943 to 1946; St. Patrick School in Scranton, PA, from 1949 to 1952; Epiphany School in Sayre, PA, from 1954 to 1955; and St. John the Evangelist Elementary School in Binghamton, NY, from 1957 to 1960.
From 1960 until the time of her death, Sister Innocenta was a prayer minister at the Marian Convent in Scranton.
She was preceded in death by five brothers, Joseph Vincent, Brother Bede, CFX, Brother Innocent, CFX, Thomas Charles, and John Leo; three sisters, Mary Abigail, Martha Cecilia and Ella Rouse; a nephew, Joseph Gerard; and a cousin in community, Sister M. Pieta Rouse, IHM.
She is survived by a niece, Mary Rouse of Dushore, PA; and two nephews, Reverend Silvan Rouse, C.P. of Union City, NJ, and Reverend Edwin Rouse of Alexander City, AL.
The funeral will be Saturday, June 29, at 9:30 a.m. at the Marian Convent, followed by interment at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, PA. Friends may call at the Marian Convent on Friday afternoon or evening.
