Sister M. Cornelian Kearney, IHM

December 31, 1922 – April 23, 1968

Sister M. Cornelian Kearney, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on April 23, 1968 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Carbondale, Pennsylvania.

She was born on December 31, 1922 in Archbald, Pennsylvania, and given the name Margaret (Marjorie). She was the daughter of the late Cornelius and Catherine Ahern Kearney. She entered the IHM Congregation on February 2, 1944, received the religious habit on August 2, 1944, and made profession of her vows on August 2, 1946.

Sister Cornelian served as teacher at the following IHM schools: St. Thomas Regional School in Providence, RI, from 1946 to 1947; St. Edward Elementary School in Twin Falls, ID, from 1947 to 1952; Holy Rosary Elementary School in Scranton, PA, from 1952 to 1954; St. Ephrem Elementary School in Brooklyn, NY, from 1954 to 1959; Most Holy Rosary Elementary School in Syracuse, NY, from 1959 to 1960; IHM Academy in Coeur d’Alene, ID, from 1960 to 1962; and St. Dominic Elementary School in Oyster Bay, NY, from 1962 to 1966.

From 1966 until the time of her death, Sister Cornelian served as a teacher at St. John the Evangelist Elementary School in Pittston, PA.

She is survived by two brothers, Paul Joseph of Peckville, PA, and Jerry (Gerald) of Archbald, PA, three sisters, Lucille Reedy of Rochester, NY, Agnes L. Mellow and Irene G. Speicher, both of Archbald, PA, nieces and nephews, and cousins, including Sister Mary Reap, IHM.

Interment is at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, Pennsylvania.
