Sister M. Hortense O’Boyle, IHM

Sister M. Hortense O’Boyle, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, died Friday, October 14, 1977, at the Marian Convent in Scranton, PA.
She was born September 9, 1897 in Olyphant, PA, and given the name Mildred. She was the daughter of late John and Elizabeth Feeley O’Boyle. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 8, 1915, received the religious habit on December 28, 1915, and made profession of her vows on January 3, 1918.
Sister Hortense served as a teacher at the following schools: St. Paul Elementary School in Scranton, PA; Most Holy Rosary Elementary School in Syracuse, NY; St. Dominic Elementary School in Oyster Bay, NY; and St. Patrick Elementary School in Oneida, NY.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary O’Hara and Agnes Kearney, and a brother, Frank.
She is survived by a sister, Marguerite O’Boyle of Olyphant, PA, a niece and a nephew.
The funeral will be Monday, Oct. 17, at 9:30 a.m. at the Marian Convent, with interment to follow at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow, PA. Friends may call at the Marian Convent all day on Saturday and Sunday.
