Sister M. Gerardus Maloney, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Monday, April 30, 1934, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Carbondale, PA.
She was born on March 17, 1881 in Scranton, PA, and given the name Bridget. She was the daughter of the late Thomas and Bridget Kelly Maloney. She entered the IHM Congregation on December 8, 1904, received the religious habit on August 15, 1905, and made profession of her vows on July 16, 1907.
Sister Gerardus served as a teacher Immaculate Conception School in Lock Haven, PA. She also served in child care for resident children at St. Joseph’s Children’s and Maternity Hospital in Scranton, PA.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Barbara Maloney and Catherine Walsh, and three brothers, Terrance, James and Patrick.
She is survived by a sister, Mary Scharf of Scranton, PA, two nieces and a nephew.
The funeral will be Thursday, May 3 at 9:00 a.m. at St. Catherine’s Church in Moscow, PA, followed by interment at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow. Friends may call on Wednesday at St. Agnes Place in Elmhurst, PA.
