Sister M. Gaudentia Pelland, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Wednesday, March 8, 1967, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Carbondale, PA.

She was born on January 28, 1908 in Providence, RI, and given the name Mary Irene. She was the daughter of the late François “Frank” and Laura H. Levesque Pelland. She entered the IHM Congregation in August, 1927, received the religious habit on December 29, 1929, and made profession of her vows on August 1, 1933.

Sister Gaudentia served as a teacher at the following schools: Nativity of Our Lord School in Scranton, PA; St. Matthew School in East Stroudsburg, PA; St. Matthew School in Wilmington, DE; St. Alphonsus School in New York, NY; and St. Dominic School in Oyster Bay, NY, from 1959 to 1961.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, Regina Marie (infant), Eva and Laura Pelland.

She is survived by three brothers, Frank J. of Kensington, MD; J. Arthur of Chicago, IL; and Oscar J. of Centerdale, RI; nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be Friday, March 10, at 9:30 a.m. at the Marian Convent in Scranton. Interment will follow at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow, PA. Friends may call Thursday afternoon or evening at the Marian Convent.
