Sister M. Francella McCarthy, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Friday, July 22, 1938, at Marywood College in Scranton, PA.
She was born on March 7, 1880 in Wilkes-Barre, PA, and given the name Jennie. She was the daughter of the late John and Catherine Jordan McCarthy. She entered the IHM Congregation on March 25, 1912, received the religious habit on August 2, 1912, and made profession of her vows on August 3, 1914.
Sister Francella served as a teacher at St. Joseph Elementary School in Spokane, WA; St. Patrick Elementary School in Oneida, NY; St. Patrick Elementary School in Spangler, PA; St. Joseph Elementary School in Renovo, PA; and All Saints Elementary School in Masontown, PA.
She is survived by two brothers, Michael and John J., both of Wilkes-Barre, PA.
The funeral will be Monday, July 25, at 9:30 a.m. with a high mass of requiem at St. Catherine’s Church in Moscow, PA, followed by interment at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow. Friends may call on Sunday at St. Agnes Place in Elmhurst, PA.
